Hi all,
I have had a suspicious screeching/grinding noise coming from one of the passenger side wheels at very low speed for some months now. When I had my service about three or four months back, the mechanics couldn't hear anything on the test drive, but as always happens, the minute I got it out myself the noise was there for all to hear!
I have noticed at the same time that my brakes do not seem to be operating as well as they should (the discs, pads and hoses are all only about 4 months old). I also have new tires, and the car still doesn't seem to handle well at all.
Now, I am unsure whether this is a stone in the calliper, a wheel bearing or a suspension bush or none of the above, but the car just doesn't feel right!!
Any ideas what this could be? Help would be hugely appreciated!

As already suggested, the wheel bearing. Initial symptons are a scraping type noise, then brake failure then knocking as the bearing gives up in it's intirety. A new bearing with seals and axle nut is circa £80 iirc although the length of time this one has been used since initial signs of failure suggest the hub will also need replacing

I should say, sometimes the sound is loud, sometimes it is intermittent and quieter.
Other posters have previously suggested that for it to be a wheel bearing, you should hear the noise at speed and get steering judder...I do not get this...does that make any difference??
Mrs spec'C' never noticed ANY noise TBH all we had was brake problems, only thing i think is the bearing was already gone when we got the car so needed a new/second hand hub. Not sure on cost but a used hub aint that expensive.
