Massive thanks Zak!!!!
A massive thanks to MOCOM Racing!!!
He went over and above the call of duty to rectify several issues with my car.... He was working on it with Frayz till the early hours of this morning, before heading off on his xmas holiday. Car returned on my drive at 4.30am
Zak can't thank you enough for the great advice and for sorting the issues we've found.
Frayz..... top man for helping out a mate and as a result helping me... I owe you a pint or two!!!!!

got a spare throttle body to be modified, oil cooler and bigger injectors to go on, not sure about using the 20G turbo at the mo as theres a lot of work to get it on and I haven't got the time to cut and weld the up and down pipe for the twisted turbo conversion, but who knows what the future holds

the 20G is now a FE turbo, but my scoob is a side entry set up
My reason for twisting is getting a better airflow into the turbo, especially now I've got a FMIC, space is at a premium, hence not getting an inlet manifold from a STI V4 or similar.
If you have got a better idea, please let me know am open to suggestions!!
Have thought about selling the engine and having an V3/4/5 STI lump instead, to be honest, I bought the 2.5 block as soon as I got back from Germany and didn't take the time to look into the alternatives. Yes, the 2.5 is a nice torquey engine but it's harder to tune properly than a 2litre.
Looking at RCM's and Andy Forrest's Impreza's, they use 2.0 and 2.3 engines respectively, and has got me thinking why?
When you look into it, the 2.5 isn't happy revving to 7-8000 RPM like what the smaller capacity engines can.

The 20g will be much more suited to the 2.5 over the 2ltr due to the extra air the 2.5 will consume.
Is your 20g still internally gated?

it is mate, still got a standard TD05H 16G on the car.
even though the car has an Apexi ECU and is running 0.75bar of boost (still pretty much a running in map) the car feels so much more responsive and has a lot more torque than my old WRX engine when it was running 311BHP.
The 2.5 apparently can run 460 on standard internals, but I don't intend going that high to find out, I'll be happy with around 340.
Not sure how good the Apexi knock monitor on the commander is, but it's hardly showing any knock up to 5000RPM, over that at it dets like mad, so have set the rev limit to 5000 to be as safe as possible, also like I said to you last night, have water injection to help with the det and have a AFR display in the car too, mind you, thats part of the water injection system so again, not sure how accurate it is, so will be taking your advice in the new year and will get a wide band to be extra safe

Yeah, a wideband is worth is weight in gold.. or the weight of a new engine lol
Does your 2.5 have forged pistons or stock pistons?
I think you should stay with the 2.5 and run the 20g in the stock location.. can you run the turbo inlet hose under the intake manifold like thay are on the newage cars?
I'd definitley get yoursalf an ACT gauge too. for the sake of £40 you can acurately monitor the intake charge temps and see exactly what your water injection is doing. If the intercooler is efficient then you may not even need the water injection.
It sounds to me as though your current map isnt correct if you have det over 5k.. Id be looking to get that sorted first.

It's got stock pistons(US STI semi closed deck)
I don't think that I can run the inlet pipework under the intake manifold as it's the earlier model, so would have to look into getting a later version manifold.
Have been thinking for a while about a ACT gauge, looks like I'm building up a nice little shopping list for Zak
You're right, the map isn't correct, now I've got the van, the scoob won't be used now until it's all sorted out, can't afford to build another engine

In that case id be inclined to change the manifold instead of rotating the turbo. That would be a better option IMO.
I dont know where/who told you the stock 2.5sti engine will take 460bhp... maybe it will for about 1 dyno run lol.
The later STIs after the version 7 changed to the hypercast pistons and not the forged ones, These are known to possible cracking just over the 400bhp mark. Personally i wouldnt go over about 380bhp with those pistons, that is a nice figure that the 20g will handle reasonably well.
There is talk of 20gs making over 400bhp but thats with methanol mix, realisically the 20g is good for about 380bhp.
If you want to go better than that id go for forged pistons and a MD321T on the 2.5 and you should see up to or around 450bhp

the later intake manifold is the easier option too, it's a pig taking the headers off as it's a one peice design with the up pipe (engine has to be lifted to get the clearance)
I bought the block from flat4online.co.uk and it's the figure they quote, but I'm not taking that as gospel.
realistically, I'd like around 350BHP, don't intend to break the 400 mark.
Thanks for your advice Frayz, it is appreciated

The research i've done since, says that the oil needs to be atleast 80 degrees, to ensure the contaminates etc. can evaporate off

If there's one thing I've learnt being an engineer is to listen to what people say, they can come up with a better idea than what you thought of, never rule out the seemingly daft ideas as quite often they're the only ones that are the best.
Yes, I can do pretty much anything with cars, but as I've said before, even I ask questions how to do things right.
It seems to me that Frayz is very much misunderstood, but he really does know his stuff, and he has made me feel a lot easier about my car

Will always help where i can mate,, in spite of what others might think.
Good call on the stat too Mike, i forgot to mention that when Cornie mentioned the cooler...
Have you blanked off your cooler for the time being?
