Default Mocom Racing Geometry Setup... WOW!!!

Hey chaps,

Just thought id post my findings on todays events

Some of you may know that ive had a few bits done on the car with the help of Zak from Mocom Racing.

Well today i was back off to Zak for a geometry setup on the STI.

All i can say is WOW!!,

Without any exageration, i felt like i was driving a different car. The car is now how it should of come from the factory. Steering response is eyepoppingly instant with the car changing direction very very quickly.
Grip has improved quite a bit but the change thats impressed me the most is the feedback through the steering.

This was one of my big dislikes with the scoob when i bought it, the steering was too light, not very comunicative and you never felt like the wheels were on the other end. Feedback was vague and not very confidence inspiring to say the least. The feedback now is incredible, and the steering gets progressively heavier the way it should.

I never thought i would gain so so much from having the chassis setup properly. Now the Whiteline kit on the car is being used properly and it feels stunning on the road. I can imagine how much better it will be once its lowered on 18s with some propper tires.

I dont know Zaks exact settings (Thats a bit of Mocom Magic), although i do know its more aggressive than the Prodrive specs, as he knows how i drive and how i like the car to feel.

Without doubt one of the best things ive had done to the car.

Go and find out for yourself.. prepare to ba amazed!!

Cheers Zak

I have to admit I was very happy with the difference the Prodrive Geometry setup made to my car so can imagine how yours handles now.

Watch for the wear on the edges of the tyres though matey!

I guess he dialled in a fair bit of negative camber - probably front and rear? The prodrive figure for the front is 1.25 deg. Any more than this and you could need new camber adj. bolts. Was the castor altered?

Actually camber is yet to be adjusted as i'll be going for some adjustable topmounts to diail in some big castor.
That way you can eliminate the need to run excessive static camber and therefore very little tire wear. Dynamic camber is what you need.

The big difference is on the toe angles, especially the rear toe which is now toe'd out slightly and you can feel the rear steering around.

Im so pleased with this, i just had to tell you all

Dazza, I thought you had forgotten, nice to get something organised if they are as good as frayz suggests.

Frayz I hate the light steering too, I liked the heavy ford steering I used to have but i thought well if you want a scoob shut up, but if there is a cure as good as you say, bring it on

A full Mocom Racing geometry setup is £80.

This inc toe, camber, caster, slip angles etc.

That price covers the first hour (of which 99% of cars will be completed within)

However, a 10 year old classic for example might not be as willing to have its bolts loosened etc and therefore the geo setup may take a little longer. Any time after the first hour will be charged at Mocoms normal hourly rate.

As Zak is a track prep specialist, those trackday and weekend warriors amongst you who of which have coilovers will benefit from having your cars corner weights setup correctly.
This is a service Mocom will be able of offer in the coming near furture.

Hope that helps

Frayz

This is a key point; what's right for Frayzer may not be right for you, each and everyone of you have differing chassis set-ups and more importantly very different driving styles and it's this that needs to be addressed when looking for a good set-up.
Prodrive are pretty limited in any recommendations they do make in that they have to cater for the majority, and they do a very good job of this in making the best of what they can from a fairly averagely handling car - don't get me wrong here, their recommendations are miles better than the factory tolerance but still leave a huge margin for driver error. I can ofcourse dial in the Prodrive recommendations, Subaru's recommendations or your own specifications should you so desire, but I'd prefer you to discuss your requirements with me before embarking on any changes to your set-up in an attempt to achieve something that is right for you.

The alignment systems are still under evaluation which is why you wont see anything on the website............yet. the Hunter system went back Monday, after a weeks scrutiny, and a Beissbarth system was delivered this morning so hopefully I can make a decision very soon , first Impressions of the Beissbarth are promising but I guess thats just german engineering
