Noob with a Classic
Hi everyone,
As the title suggests, I'm a noob and have just bought myself a 2000 classic UK turbo. I've only had it a week and am loving it! I've wanted one since I was about 12, after I used to see one everyday at school when a bloke was dropping his kids off! It only took 18 years for me to finally get one!
It's by no means mint, but the jobs that need doing are reasonably small and I've managed to fix most of them already! That was until I managed to put the jack through the jacking point yesterday!!
Anyway, here she is (ignore my stupid pose!!):
I'm dying to attack it with my DA polisher, but I've not had time yet!
This is the jacking point:
I've spoken to a bloke who says it's not as bad as it looks and can apparently cut it out and weld in a clean piece of metal.
Oh, and I apologise it advance if I start asking loads of noob questions!!

Welcome along mate, nearly all classics are a work in progress now days but that's part of the fun.
As far as the headliner is concerned ring some scrap yards or look in the sale treads on here. Plenty are being broken daily mate.

Sunroof was pretty rare. I had one on my '99 classic. The lining is different to the standard one and is stretched on a wooden frame! In damp weather, the bloody thing sagged and it was like sitting in a tent! The dealer (I got the car from new) had to get a guy in to make up a new lining, properly stretched onto the frame.
That rust is close to a load bearing part (MOT fail?) How is the other side?

I thought I was having a little too much trouble finding the headliner! If a sunroof is rare that'd explain it.
The other side's fine, it's just the passenger side that's gone. I was told that is can be cut out and a new bit welded in, is that the case if it near a load bearing part?

Two flavours of rare too; factory steel and dealer retro fit, can't see form the photos which your has
jacking point and arches are problem areas on classics, the rusty jacking point may be a sign the wheel arch is on its way out too so worth a check. Loads of threads on here about rusty rear arches.

Gas Works is in the Wharf Rd car park and has been painted for over twenty years...its internationally known as one of the mainstays of the Essex Rockerz and still in use today. It has the full support of the County Council and has done so for many years...Google Essex Rockerz for more images than you can shake a stick at

You and I know of the idea of this site (I only became aware of it's status because of the thread you refer to) but anyone not in the know will simply assume it's just another wall attacked by yobs (albeit, quite talented) with aerosol cans.
As a Subaru owner (15 years in total) I'm just not keen on the idea that a background of 'Tags' compliments the status of the car.
It would be interesting to know the 'most up-market' car that's been photo'd there - does anyone know?

That's right, I did, and although I'm aware this is a 'controlled' graffiti site, to most people the concept of graffiti is simply a form of vandalism!
