Mapping on the road vs rolling road what's best
Basically guys i'm ready to have my RA mapped but can't make my mind up what to do regarding mapping on the road or rolling road, tried google as you do and only thread I come across was passion ford which was amusing to read but seeing as most members on here have had there scoob mapped thought its the best place to ask, basically after pro's and cons of both.
Thanks in advance

One of the reasons I'm unsure is a few mates in the past have had there cars mapped on the rollers then had problems on the road then you see others who have mapped on the road but not made the figures they thought they where running when putting the car on the rollers at a later date

Im getting my typr r v3 road mapped by jgm partially cos i cant get to the rollers and i want
drivability on the road .i had an escort rst set up on the rolling road and it was pants on the road
so at a later date ill do a dyno day to see power.
Granted it all depend s on the mapper etc

the best imho is both,
It all depends also on the car (330hp on the road no issue 600+ gets stupid), the driver, the weather and road conditions, all influence road mapping but make only small differences to rolling road mapping..
Discuss what you want from the car with your chosen mapper or the mappers you are contacting and work out the best option from there..
I do a lot of road mapping and a lot of rolling road mapping and tend to find the best is to do both, usually drives nicer on the road when road mapped or tweaked and setup with the road in mind but makes more power when mapped on the rolling road or tweaked on the rr after road mapping.

Cheers for the reply guys
So jonny in what way was it pants on the road?
My scoob does get used on the daily ish but doesn't do more than 5000 miles a year but would like about 340bhp out of it not a massive ask I wouldn't think plus I do take it up the drag strip quite a bit too

I`m getting mine mapped end of the month and have opted for the road map, im not too bothered about max BHP etc, i just want all my mods harmonised and to have the best amount of torque rather than max power etc, i rarely go above 120 (on the track) in the car so for me its all about getting there rather than the final output, plus i fear an RR session for max power will pop the lump LOL

Nah sure it would be fine fella mine is now booked in for this Saturday can't wait opted to have it mapped on the road after a lot a of thinking about it, can always stick it on the rollers in the near future to see what it's running

Despite years of hearing this garbage about road maps being better, I'll still stick to what we've said all along which agrees with Simon.
You have to do both IMHO to get the best from the set up, rollers for getting every last little bit of power everywhere, particularly from cam timing on non standard AVCS cams and then tweak on the road for every last bit of driveability.
Ideally if you have a track near by, you can tweak it there too if it suits the customers budget.
As Simon has said, peoples power goals are climbing every day and we are seeing more and more 500hp + cars on a daily basis, road mapping as such just doesn't suit our road environment down here, unless I choose to start mapping at night.
