I am planing to buy BMW N47 D20 Engine for my car. I have heard and read from a lot of sources that these engines are prone to timing chain failure.

What do you suggest, how to prevent or minimize the chances of those rattling noise.

Also what should be the rate for reconditioned engine?

Change the timing chain whilst the engine is still out of the car and carry out regular oil changes.
