Default Ecus can they be swapped around ?

I have a wrx bugeye 2001 and want more power can I swap a ecu from another car such as a prodrive or is remap the only way ? Which can you just remap the ecu that's in the car?

Ive got a prodrive ecu here for a bug, itll give you 265bhp with a decat system and filter, £50 if you want it mate

It will fit but won't work without reprogramming the new ECU with your key/transponder.
