Default A few questions.

Merry Christmas

I'm hoping to get MY02 uk sti mapped early next year and have a couple of questions. Car has Decat, Panal Filter and Uprated Fuel Pump, I'm not planning on taking it much further than this and hoping to hit 340bhp.

Sorry if I sound dumb!

1. Open Source VS ECUTEK

Are there any differences (apart from the price)? Does the saying "you get what you pay for" apply here? I know certain mappers don't use this software, why not?

2. Mafless

What are the benefits (apart from not having a sensor that can fail)? Is it worth considering for a very lightly modded car (decat, panal filter, fuel pump)?

3. Antilag

As above really, would I benefit from having this or would it just be a gimmick?

Thanks for reading Folks

Hi there

Merry Christmas you too

Here are my answers on that, hope helps

1). Open Source vs EcuTek

Difference is only in software, price and licence used.

I don't think here will apply this word "you get what you pay for",our wagon has been mapped before via Open Source with great results

Many mappers are established dealers of the EcuTek and EcuTek seems doesn't like if you are using OS SW for mapping

Many people going with Open source just due price, although Open source offering now more functions as EcuTek

As many people said you can use any SW which will give same/similar result(similar situation is when you are using Open office and someone using Microsoft Office, both offering same with different approach, one is free and one is paid app) ,but at the end you are paying for expertise/knowledge of mappers and really doesn't matter if they're using Open source or EcuTek

2) Mafless benefits are mainly if you are thinking to run higher bhp, when MAF have own limits,on fairly standard cars or lightly modded cars is not needed.New age MAF are pretty robust, they're not fragile as on the classic.

3) ALS(Anti Lag) they're no benefits on road car, many people like the noise and may people using this in many cases just for show.
