Hello all.

I'm very tempted to remap my car for all the obvious reasons. Increased power, low end torque, improved MPG (maybe?). But my question is, is my car gonna take a huge hit in terms of reliability? I'm not someone that can afford big engine damage repairs if something blows up. All remappers tell you that they only 'remap within the safe parameters of the car' but with the EJ motor i know it has its issues.

Anyone got any experience or advice when it comes to remapping this engine. Will it exasperate existing problems such as ringland failure etc and Is it a gamble on whether somethings gonna blow from the increased power or is it no worse than mapping any other car?

So you're saying a good map is actually beneficial to the car?

 

Think he's saying it doesn't really matter if it's mapped or not they can go at anytime

Probably all good advice above. As said, regardless if you map or not they can fail. If you do get it mapped then keep the boost below 1.35 bar to help prevent heads lifting and premature head gasket failure.

However.... in my personal experience they can still go pop anyhow!

It's a lottery really. Get it forged and mapped and forget it.

 

Is it the same engine in the new shape 2015 year car after 10 years of the 2.5?

 

 

Yes. Identical essentially. I have a 2015+ car that already suffered failure and now has a fully forged rebuilt engine.

 

Totally rediculous that situation is still happening nearly 15 years later, seen one yesterday on fudbook that had went pop at 8.5k miles.

 

Yep, they don't learn. Same head gasket failures, same ringland failures, same secondary air system failures, same TGV failures etc etc etc.

 

BMW swirl flaps, VAG 2.0 TDi engines ****ting oil pumps, etc, etc.........................

Totally agree. Every marque has their issues and with every performance car there will always be a weak spot in the system somewhere. It's knowing and understanding the failures and fixes and being aware of the potential costs that's important when owning a performance car.

I've never stopped myself buying something that had well documented issues like twin turbo RX7's RX8's, Pulsars, Lancia Delta Integrale's and more and I don't regret a single car I've owned over the years. Yes 3 of my Subarus have suffered engine failures of some sort but that certainly doesn't stop me wanting or buying another one as the positives MASSIVELY outweigh the negatives.
