Default P0938 error code / limp home mode...

Dunno if this is OK in this topic...

2009 STI impreza 330S, forged, SC46 billet turbo, perrin FMIC., 1000 cc/min id injectors etc.

Got a check engine light Wednesday morning, car would absolutely NOT pull away, 9 MPH max!

Cleared code.
Engine / throttle worked fine.

Happened again Friday. No torque to pull away. Also revs jumped up from idle @ 800 ish to about 1500.

And again tonight, again at standstill at traffic lights.

Have already cleaned the 6 pin multiplug on throttle, and cleaned inside throttle / butterfly area.

Normal commute journeys each time, in some stop start traffic, occurred both times when in a line, stationary.

P0638 code - throttle actuator range.

1. What could be the cause ( pedal position sensor, throttle positioner, throttle motor??? )

2. How can I check these items, or do I need to visit dealer for diagnostics?

3. Are these parts available and at what cost!!

Thanks muchly,

I do have the ECUTek ProECU ( deltadash ?? ) kit so could read values, log ... any use here?

Thanks

I take it the car has been mapped for those mods? Could just be the drive by wire throttle settings used are too aggressive and are triggering the code falsely. It's safe to disable this code though I'm not sure you can do it with your ProECU kit - it needs to be updated in the map and then flashed onto the car.

Do you notice any difference if you stay in I/S/S# modes?

Hi guys, thanks.

Yes it IS P0638 code, my typo in title!

Yes car has been mapped to suit the mods, ran fine for a coupe of years, 0638 error just started happening this last week. 3 times now, all fine once code cleared for a couple of days.
Cleaned / checked connectors, cleaned throttle / butterfly area with spray carb cleaner - a little dirty but not much.

Can't get at pedal position sensor.

DBW wire settings are quite aggressive, especially on S# ( which it is almost always in! ) but the setting change on I / S / S# .... and this occurred on at least 2 settings when I was trying that on Sunday.

If not a wire loom problem ( broken wire ? ) then it looks like the throttle body - motor or position sensor.

Found same model on ebay so will try that when it arrived this week!

Checked that link, useful, I have done most of the things bar checking voltages.

Cheers

Ohh yeah,

It happens every time ( so far ) when stationary, in traffic queue or at lights.

Was the throttle body, motor seemed to stop moving butterfly.

Swapped out for one off ebay to test, car no longer drops to idle / no throttle action and actually feels back to her 500 bhp/lbft best - so seems like has been slowly failing for a few months!

Ha!

Yeah, but where to get one! Couldn't get hold of you!!!

Sorted for now. Cheap too ... what's dealer price? Circa £500 I heard?
