Hi guys,

1999 Impreza Sti 6

I have an Apexi AVC-R. It doesn't seem to work. I just got the car. I traced the wire back to under the carpet near the ECU. I plugged it and unplugged it didn't work

It doesn't have any lights come on or the screen doesn't seem to work. Is there any way for me to test if the unit is broken and I need another one (which would suck) OR do I just need to bite the bullet and buy another one?

My guess is a loose wire if you have no power at all, check all the wires from the avcr are actually connected to ecu wires, they are usually connected / soldered on to the ecu wires.

 

There are connected with a little plastic connector that clips onto the other side. I should have taken a picture.

I could only see this part (the one plug at the bottom of the photo)



I thought it might be connected to the ECU is that not the case?

The loose wires wire into the ecu the big plug goes into the avcr itself, best letting someone who knows what they are doing to check the wiring. The other two plugs from memory goes into the boost solenoid and map sensor

 

Well when I got that far I thought the same and put everything back.

I don't really like handing my car in but I am over my head. Would you recommend a Subaru specialist or an Auto Electrician?

Why don't you download the instructions. They are easy to wire up and you get to check all is ok. You will need to turn boost control off in ecu as the avcr regulates this.
