Default Will I need a map

i am picking up a 2008 hatch wrx Sti tomorrow

If I fit a cat back exhaust will I need a re-map

I've hear you need to map these for all sorts even fitting a dump valve.

Mapping yes,defiantly worth it on that car.
Has it been forged?

Your car would benefit from a map if not been done but won't need it just for a cat back exhaust.

Cheers, what sort of benefits will a map get me and how much would it cost?

First and foremost it will get u a safer running engine. And do your research in choosing who maps your car!! Speak to them about supporting mods to get the best from the car but on a standard 2.5 don't push the limits. Post your questions on the hatch thread and the guys with the 2.5s will guide you in the right direction.
Depending on the mapper and map ( ecutek or open source) it could cost between £300-£500. But a map is a must if not been done. Try dig out previous history of the car to see if Subaru have re flashed the map as there was "issues" with the original maps.
A read through the hatch thread will explain all and hopefully not put you off.
