Default Ej15 turbo

Hi, I recently bought a 1997 impreza with an ej15 engine and was wondering if it was possible to install a turbo in it?

As always with this sort of proposed project the question is "why?". Surely cheaper and easier to buy a 2.0 turbo car to start with!

You would essentially have to buy a turbo car and transplant everything from it (wiring, dash, engine, brakes, etc. etc.) and then the insurance would probably be more expensive that the donor car anyway!

Unless you mean add a turbo to the 1.5l engine? In which case I doubt it's strong enough , let alone the same issues as above (wiring, brakes, plus engine management).

If you mean bolt a turbo on with some extra pipework and expect it to work, then no.

If you like the cars and want a faster one, get a WRX.

This has been asked a million times before and it boils down to the fact that the N/A and turbo are essentially different cars. So no.

You need a whole turbo car to take the parts from.

If you wanted to just fit a turbo then you would need the exhaust system, a custom hand made loom (highly difficult and expensive), a custom ecu and map, sensors, custom engine parts, plus potentially injectors and things. Then the pistons would probably be the wrong compression ratio etc etc.... After all that you would have a car that couldn't hack it and need the gearbox, brakes, running gear suspension etc...

Just not worth it.
