Default Uprated fuel pump

Sorry in advance as I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find a definitive answer.
If I fit a Walbro 255 fuel pump do I need to remap...? Car is standard apart from cat back afterburner.
Would it cause any damage or issues to my engine If not remapped?

Many thanks and apologies again.

Cheers John.

Hi John

You should be OK to run upgraded fuel pump although I would have car check'd for AFR and fueling, yours fueling can be bit on rich side, but rather to run rich than lean on turbo cars

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

Hi Jura

Thanks for the fast reply, very helpful, Thank you.
I'm assuming if I fit the walbro pump I will be okay to use the car but would be advisable to get a air fuel ratio check as soon as possible.

I've also seen some people fit a walbro 190..? Would you recommend fitting the 255 over the 190?

Thanks again. John.

the pump doesn't control the fuel pressure - the fuel pressure regulator does that for you, so long as the pump isn't supplying 5 times the normal pressure then the FPR will be providing the same fuel pressure at the rails.

Fitting the pump alone won't adjust anything but if it's a standard car on a standard map it will be rich as bill gates anyway so you'll benefit from having it checked/mapped/adjusted.

Also yes you want the 255 or a 290(not a 190) - either walbro or scoobyworx will do the job. I've a scoobyworx 255 in mine and it's as quiet as the stock unit and has performed well for 2 years or more.

The 290 is their new range, it's replaced the 255's but the story is the same, fuel rail pressure is controlled by the FPR not the pump.

Hi John

Yes you will be OK to run this fuel pump on yours, you shouldn't have any issue with them

We are run few fuel pumps, but I can only recommend HRC fuel pump which we are run on our wagon and now we are running HRC on our EP3 and yes I would have check'd AFR at least...

I would fit 255LPH without the questions, those 190LPH I've seen only few on other cars, but really depends if you want make more power in later stages as 190LPH can be later restriction and really 255LPH or 290LPH and many other sizes are best for yours needs if you are looking increase more power in later stages

And here are sizes of OEM Subaru fuel pumps

2002-2005 WRX fuel pump 130 lph
2006-2007 WRX fuel pump 145 lph
2008+ WRX fuel pump 155 lph
2004-2007 STI fuel pump 145 lph
2008+ STI fuel pump 175 lph

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

The only way it will cause an issue is if the car has been mapped to a weak pump which has had the fuel trim at top end increased to push to pump to make up for it been weak.

Problem arises then when you fit a healthy strong pump and it then over fuels a lot

Exactly this. Very well described.
Putting a 255 pump on an otherwise std, unmapped car will not effect anything.
It will give you the reliability of a new pump and overhead for future modifications.
No need to have anything checked just now.
