Mapping options for a jdm import
Guys i understand a fresh import needs to be mapped for uk fuel but what are the options regarding mapping.? Does ecutek, carberry and the likes work same as uk cars?
Or can the standard Ecu just be altered for v power?
Car is a 2005 Newage jdm
My concern is driving the car on v power without a uk fuel map, if it does need the full hog map I may aswell collect decat, fuel pump pannel filter etc?
All help appreciated

Drive it gently and off boost to be on the safe side. Fuel in Japan is known as jungle juice for a reason...
You can get it mapped as it is, but if you're looking for decent reliable power, then fit a panel filter and uprated fuel pump. If you want a really good in tank pump, look for Aeromotive. Scobyworx and RCM sell their own branded versions of these pumps.
By the way, what year and model is it?

yep i,d be inclined to get the parts and get it all done at the same time as it will need ecutek or carberry installed to adjust the map. jap fuel is 100 ron iirc. you could use v power and some octane booster if it needed to be moved or driven somewhere i guess.

Yeah if that's the case, get a filter, pump, 3 port bs and decent full twinscroll exhaust like the milltek brand. I got these parts when I got mine and had it mapped too. It sounds beautiful! My pal said it sounds expensive sounding (what ever that means)... Honestly, the best sounding car I've ever owned by a long mile! Some say that the milltek isn't all that, but I looked at lots and compared sound levels etc... The milltek is exactly 101db at half a meter and at three quarter revs. Anything else would (IMO) be too loud for lots of places. Plus I think it looks the best

For the following.
Twinscroll decat down pipe and de res centre to mate with a Sti genome back box
Fuel pump and performance pannel filter
Already have a list of upgrades sat waiting to be put on... A few nice bits too lol
Service parts will be ordered next month...

I was under the impression that newage cars were reasonably safe to drive as they are without a remap (if its in stock form) as the ecu can self learn and re-set itself so wouldnt to any harm if driven normally without a re-map on uk fuel such as vpower ...?

Yeah I'm the same with my type-R thats due in a few weeks also. However I doubt if EVERY jdm car thats on the road has been re-mapped?? I used to be involved in the MR2 scene heavily and the turbo models were jdm only and more than happy to use without re-maps.
Loadsof owners modded them to stage 1 (decat / induction / fuel pump and increase boost to 1bar (stock was .8) ) with no issues at all.. Same with Supra TT and Celice GT4's

I was Advised by AFP to run octane booster in the 05 Jdm Sti wide track blob I have owned since November 05 that was back when optimax 98ron was on the go .Till I got time of work for uk fuel remap mine is mapped by AFP using ECUTEK software .
If your not sure email a recommended ecu mapper round your area .

Depends how long it takes for you to get remap .I would change the PFR7G fitted from factory mine were orangey/red with running octane booster .I went to PFR7B and gapped to 0.65mm

the JDM cars run a higher timing table as standard - too high for even the superist of supers that we have.
Yes if you run the car on regular fuel after a few attempts it will drop the IAM value (overall timing advance value) down to something that suits the fuel type, but the car will continually be trying to advance the timing back the full target - given the right circumstances this will eventually cause problems to the engine.
The speed this all happens depends on how you drive the car, so long as your not drag stripping and hammering the life out of it constantly then you'll be significantly reducing the risk of damamge to the engine.
It's the same story as running a UK STI on 95 ron regular unleaded.
