Syvecs ECU - limp mode.
Hey guys,
Currently have a Syvecs ECU on my WR1.
I was giving it a blast tonight, I had half a tank of fuel, the car was all warmed up properly like I always do, giving it some beans here and there down the motorway and some dual carriageways, all is well.
When I decided to put my foot down again the ECU cut in and the car went into limp mode (ECU cuts the revs to 4k). I have a toucan screen with just about everything monitored, however all was well on the screen and it wasn't showing any problems.
I went to a car park, turned the engine off, gave it 5 minutes, then went on my way again - everything was fine, took it up to 7k happily.
Could any one help on why the ECU cut the revs? Something overheat maybe? The ECU cuts the revs to 4k when I'm very low on fuel to conserve it, however I had half a tank tonight.
Thanks.

Cool you need to go on the syvecs website and download the latest software and check for your error codes
It's usual for aftermarket ecus to throw up the EML upon knock detection but it doesn't throw it into limp mode

Okay I've downloaded the Syvecs software, I'll have a look tomorrow.
What is the EML? I'm assuming limp mode is when the ECU restricts the revs to 4K? or is that something else? a safety precaution?

EML is the "check engine light" and, as Steve says, the Syvecs won't drive this for anything related to limp mode.
Toucan can "decode" limp modes by the way - you need to be running relatively recent Toucan firmware, and also the Syvecs datastream needs to be configured to include the limp/trip mode messages.
After the event, as has been said, you need to look at the logs on the ECU and that will tell you what the cause was.
FYI limp mode is cleared after a key off/key on so that's why the "fault" cleared.

Thanks for that.
Excuse my ignorance, however I don't understand the part when you said 'as Steve says, the Syvecs won't drive this for anything related to limp mode'
What does that mean?
Thanks.

The Syvecs can control the Check Engine Light (CEL), aka "EML", just as an output to be switched on.
Options in the Syvecs calibration software allow this to be controlled by a few (sensible) things such as knock events, as a shift light, or as a sensor warning light - but not, to the best of my knowledge, as a trip/limp mode warning. That's, perhaps, logical since you know the engine has tripped or is in limp mode and don't really need a lamp to tell you lol.

I see what you mean. Yes the EML flicks on very briefly as a shift indicator. Just to confirm limp mode in Syvecs is when the ECU will not allow to take it past 4000 rpm?
Also if a key in key out scenario resets the fault how serious could it be?
Thanks.

Limp mode can be configured with reduced boost, rpm limit etc., yes - unlike "trip" which kills the engine. It is all configurable so it is difficult to know precisely what yours is set to do.
A limp mode is *usually* something that is momentary - a dip in oil pressure; coolant too hot; oil temp too high. So perfectly reasonably that it's reset when you key off/on.
Are you sure the CEL is set as a shift light? It might be, but what it it's set as a knock indicator? Really would be best to check with whoever mapped it, for peace of mind.

Thanks for all your answers guys.
No, I'm 100% sure It is set as a shift light, the person I purchased the car off had it configured that way to flash just around 7K, every time....
Thanks again.
