Default little info please?

Hey people, new to this forum. i recently become a 2003 wrx bugeye owner, previous owner told me the scooby has pink sti injectors, vf34 turbo, walbro fuel pump, turbo back 2.5 exhaust, sti tmic, k&n pannel filter and sti ecu, car hasn't been mapped and boost has manually been turned down to 0.7bar. Ive booked car in for remapping but earliest date is 17th September, ive read that the Scooby is very sensitive and needs mapping to new mods, is it best i park car up in garage untill mapped? No lights are warning signs have flashed up??

0.7bar sounds like waste gate pressure. Probably best just leaving it until it's mapped but if you have to drive it, drive off boost!

He did say him and his mate turned it down with a manual boost controller? Also what is waste gate pressure? Can this be sorted by the mapper?

Firstly and most importantly get the manual boost controller taken off. They are the devil! There is no need for it when the car is mapped properly.

I refer to the standard spring pressure that the waste gate will open at, around 0.7bar, depending on the model of course. With the manual boost controller fully closed the turbo maxes out at 0.7bar, with it opened a little bit you would see the boost rise. It'll rise the more you open the boost controller. That's why manual controllers are bad, anyone can play with them at any time and cause serious damage to the engine!

Yes, the mapper will set the boost properly in the ECU and hopefully bin the manual controller.

I don't think its still on, i told him the car don't seem as punchy as i thought it would be, he then replied that i could buy a manual boost controller to turn up the boost but he sed he wouldn't advise it. So guessing he must of got hold of one and turned it down. Sorry ive got a long journey of learning. IM taking it for mapping at a respectable place i can trust so hopefully they get it running decent and safe. Any reason why ive had no warming lights? It has the sti ecu maybe that recognises the sti mods?

He's probably just bypassed the boost control solenoid with a section of pipe from the waste gate actuator to the compressor housing. Is there any sort of boost gauge fitted?

There'll not really be any warning lights unless a sensor has failed for example.

Yeah there's a boost gauge fitted, it does what he says and boosts at 0.7bar.

Cool, that's a start anyway! I don't get why all the parts have been fitted without the remap being done by the previous owner. He's went to a fair amount of effort doing the work! Have you seen the parts yourself?

Yeah i thought the same tbh, he said he got the parts of his friend for cash and his stock parts, but his wife couldn't stand the car and told him to get rid, parts i can see for sure are, the turbo back exhaust and the sti tmic, being honest the rest i wouldn't know. I got a good deal so thought it was worth taking his word, there's a place in co Durham called evotune hes going to take a look at it for me see what's actually on it.
