Default revs in town driving????

prob popped up before, ok I have a pretty quick impreza now all the mods are done, but am I doing something wrong? when I pull away from lights in town the average joe car seems to leave me standing? whats all that about? 350/340 an there cars im sure are around 180/160 ish . can I ask out of interest , what revs u guys drive in 1st and 2nd gears for general road use.... im changing gears around 2000?. so turbo hasn't even seen started yet. but seems theres a performance margin here against average cars vs the mighty Subaru impreza. torque conversion much better these days then ? power to weight? its like they all have those super chips on ecu.

yeh - at 2000RPM your making maybe 50hp? Remember smaller lighter cars that don't have to spin a turbo or push a 4wd gearbox around don't need to rev hard to get places.

You say you have 350hp, got a dyno graph of that? I bet it's not 350hp at 2000rpm - most likely your dyno doesn't start until 3000rpm or so and peak power will be much higher in the revs.

The second problem is the fact that he's even trying
I mean seriously, in town, who cares?

IF and you'll notice it's a BIG if your running 350bhp as above your turbo won't be spooling so probably running a lot less power at that point than your average 1.1L Nissan micra that weighs half of what a Subaru does so no real surprise that your being had off the line, and those Micras don't hang about up to 40mph my mum had one and when my Mrs drove it she'd have most things off the line.

Your also experiencing (from the wrong side) the reason there's such a heated debate about WRX V's STI, de-cat and simple re-map or PPP of a 225bhp WRX will see it eating a STANDARD STI off the line and into 3 figures before the STI will catch up and pass.

Transfer that to your average 120/150bhp N/A car that weighs 2/300 kg less with a committed driver and your toast at 2k rpm in just about any turbo car up to 3000 rpm, even my Mrs in her sh1tbox shopping trolly Rover 214 with 103bhp will dust you, never mind what it's capable of when I ring the tit's off it to the red line

So yeah foot to the floor (at least 4k rpm) and dump the clutch and if you can't smell something burning at the next set of lights your doing it wrong.

In town and without dropping the clutch at mid revs you are going to have a bit of a battle with most cars.
However, a little bit of open sourcery and LC patch added:

You might come a cropper with the cops though if you have a loud rear end.

Default low revs - low torque

hi lads , yes the car mapped by a well respected mapper BR Swindon , the 350 is at around 6000 rpm.

vf34
alcatek ecu with lc and al
fmic
rcm fuel pump
3 port boost solenoid
3 " straight through exhaust
sti gearbox

just looked at general torque on lesser powered cars and it seems 200 is the normal these days. bhp is achieved later in rev range , but im probably referring more to low down torque. even thinking of going back to td04...

Nope, don't go back, get a better clutch for more mid rev launches, you won't have the same problem.

hi , I have the exedy stage 2 fitted , but I have a 3rd gear synchro problem but that's another story, does pulling away in 2nd give any grief? I think next port of call are some rcm headers and poss sc36 or a lateral md series. but then im looking at a stroker kit. mmmmmm ..£££££ all good fun though.

Sounds like somethings wrong, my Type R with VF34 is pretty epic to 60mph sub 4 seconds, Subaru also fitted it to the S202 as standard.

You need to build the revs if you want to be quick off the line, it's what Subarus do best, with the AWD putting down the power off the line is easy, getting a bigger turbo will only make it worse.

Your VF34 is a 360bhp capable turbo anyway so no point going for an SC36 as it will be very similar, the SC32 billet would be the one to go for if you want quick spool, but you'll still need a 3k rpm launch to get off the line quickly, blipping the throttle is also a good thing to do to spin the turbo up.

Also don't go after market headers, Harvey headers and matched up-pipe is what you want for spool especially at that level.

Just like that....

The problem is your driving, not the car....

possibly true, I don't race it that often, when I pull off under hard footing it pulls very well and leaves anything behind in the rear view mirror, and I do blip the throttle just as the revs fall ,let the clutch out and up to 5000rpm or so then 2nd, I notice the engine check light comes on as it nears high rev , is this a gear change indicator on the alcatek? perhaps im not been fair on my car. she is getting on now as well my99 with 100k under her belt. perhaps some lego bricks on my right foot lol. more v power

If the CEL is just a flash then yes most likely a shift light, but you aint gonna win any races changing gear at 2000rpm, and a lot of new cars, especially diesel have stacks of low down torque that will give you a problem, not that you should be racing in town anyway lol.

So in post 1. You change gear at 2000rpm and get left behind but in post 21. You change gear at 5000rpm and leave everything behind. Ehhh?!? You're also hitting the redline limit@7000rpm lol. Stop racing around town and stick with the Lego is my advice!
Any pics of your mighty Impreza?

hi yes I refer to the 2000 rpm as normal town driving, and the 5000 is the boosting bit. grey area this as im making the point in order to keep up with newer cars it seems the impreza needs more of a push today than few years ago. torque conversion has changed on cars I think. pics yes how do u get them up on here??? its about time I put it on.
