Default P1 diff /gearbox problem advice needed

hi guys I was driving my p1 today out of a second gear corner the wheels were spinning when I heard a loud banging I shut off and stopped after looking round the car I set off again everything seemed fine until pulling up on the drive the car seemed to lurch forward when the lock was on and it seemed like the brakes were stuck I presume its the diff or maybe the gearbox ? but which one ? any ideas who to check also are these the same as wrx /sti ? thanksneil.

If when you drive in slow tight circles , with steering on full lock the car feels like it's skipping , it's most likely the centre diff
