Im looking to change my engine oil in my standard sti i belive it should be running 5w-30 but wondering what people think i should use as my car now has 130000 thousand miles on the clock ....... and what make of oil ? castrol ect ?? thanks

Either a 5w40 or a 10w40, either will be sufficient, just ensure its a good quality oil

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS NT/CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Shell Helix, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

Sorry to highjack the thread, Would the above also be the most suitable for a forged 2.1 impreza type r ?

Possibly, but a 10w is often better in a forged build and then if the power is up a fair bit, a 10w-50 is a better option.

The 5w-40 is a little thicker when hot, so if you like to give it a bit of a thrash from time to time, it will offer a bit better protection, without being so thick that it slows the oil flow too much.
