Short Shift
Thinking of fitting Short Shift on my 51 reg Bugeye, has anyone got one fitted if so is it worth it and anyone recommend a good make. Cheers guys and Gals.

I put a Subaru OEM quick shift on my 02 bug WRX years ago and whilst it did improve on gear lever throw it doesn't actually speed up shifting that much because the limiting factor is the box gate entry to the next gear. I wasn't happy with the cost : performance gain ratio and haven't bothered with subsequent Sti's.

I'm not sure about bugeyes but I find the standard throw pretty good on my classic? I normally always fit uprated engine mounts and a short shift on all my cars, but on the Scooby I only had to worry about the mounts! I've heard some people say quickshifts make a positive difference but they do seem few and far between, I think Perrin do one, and maybe GFB. Alternatively you could go for a adjustable Perrin gearnob (you'd be surprised how much difference using just a slightly shorter lever can make along with a decent weighted gearnob) and fit poly shifter bushings, this should make a good difference and give you adjustability also, I think the gearnob is about £45 and the bushes about £20
