just wondering as im picking up my 298bhp bug this week what sort of power the standard gearbox can with stand im thinking its safe at that sort of power and i have no intention of increasing the power ??

 

its not so much power its how its gets treated or how it has been treated ie launching it and not changing the oil.the 5 speed in my blob was running at 380bhp fine for years but the box i had before it let go at 263 bhp

its all down to luck i think

 

i have been running 292BHP in my bugeye for the last 3 years

 

ok cool im thinking it will be fine as last owner adored it and had gear box oil changed recently which can only be a good thing
