I seem to remember Pete Croney saying that there were issues with a lot of retard on the MY01 PPP.
I logged Mike's UK300 PPP with original up-pipe, but Magnex twin dump downpipe the other day and it was running about +8 degrees knock correction (=advance) across the range on full load.
Anyone else logged a Bugeyes PPP with only a downpipe?

From memory Pete was seeing about 9-11 degrees less advance with the standard uppipe and a Scoobysport full decat on a PPP'd car on a rolling road. As an RR is about the most severe test (lots of sustained power and minimal cooling air in comparison to road conditions) I guess that this would be why he found a worse case than you.
Pete's original results persauded me to change the uppipe (not to a Scoobysport, but a different manufacturer). However, I've had a number of problems with the change - the first didn't fit and the current one looks like it is beginning to develop a leak. Maybe it is better to fit one with one with a flexi-joint.

This one had a dirty great load of advance of at least +8 degrees across the range and was in rude health. I was very surprised - I was just advising the gentleman to get an up-pipe PDQ and then to see that timing was quite surprising. As it happens Falkland had a new Magnex design to try out anyway, but it is not flexible.

Everyone seems to agree it is safe to fit both. On one car that I tried just a downpipe seemed OK - does not mean all will be. Up-pipe only - Caronte posted this question don't know if he had an answer.
John,
I logged my friend's WRX MY01 PPP last week which has (I think) SS UP, SS DP, SS centre but with the OE rear centre silencer thing + PPP BB.
He is running about +8 deg Knock correction too....
I can a)double check the exhaust details if you like and b)mail you the trace

John,
According to his Defi's, he's peaking about 1.4 and holding 1.2-1.3 - 13.5psi is of course, the PPP doing it's thing
(how annoying is it that you can't monitor the "real" boost figure on an MY01 PPP
)
