chipping 99 scooby
#1
I've a 99 scooby unmodded except for a scoobysport exhaust. Figure a new ECU will give me a cheap hike in power. Anyone have any thoughts on
1. whether this is a good idea
2. what to fit, and
3. where to get it from
Cheers

4 x 4,
I had the TEK1 first ... if you want to simply improve the performance as opposed to alter it radically, the TEK1 is great - smooth and the power is there all the way to the red line - for 150.00 quid, it's
However, TEK 2 is where the fun really starts!

4 x 4,
Below are my figures after the TEK1 +Dawes MBC and TEK2
My original 802 ECU was probably putting out not more than 200 BHP and tourque.
The TEK1 will bring that upto 230ish, but more importantly will allow your car to pull all the way to the red line. I'm sure you've noticed how at about 5,000 ish rpm things begin to tail off ... not any more!
The Dawes unit is a very cost effective mod which when used with the TEK1 gives good increases.
The TEK2 is a big step up again as you can see ... 263 BHP and 254 torque. This is excellent.
To get the best out of any of these improvements to the ECU, one needs to start thinking about the breathing on the car ... Air Filter and Exhausts ... That's next for me. If you want to mail me offline for any thing else, feel free. Edited to say ... sorry I'm thick, just noticed you have a SS exhaust ... OOOPS!
Hope this helps.

4 x 4,
Do you know which ECU you have - 800 / 801 or 802?
T-UK is quite right, the TEK1 is really designed to bring the 802 ECU upto (and slightly surpass) the 800 / 801 standard.

Floyd,
Cheers, Merv did say he was pleased with the result at the time.
Cars done 37,500, fairly careful miles ... til now!
The only other mod is an ITG Panel filter, which can't make too much difference with a Std. Exhaust. However, plan to change DP to SS shortly

Will you be going to the next RR day at PE?
If so I'd love a ride in your car to get an idea of improvement.
BTW my car recorded 201 BHP with the 802! Beat that!

Floyd,
never had my 802 Dyno'd, but what I do know is that when I put my boost gauge in with the TEK1 (which held standard .9 BAR Boost), I reckon my old ECU was giving a performance closer to .7 BAR!!
Do you know when the next RR is at PE?
Where are you ... always happy to meet up for a chat.

Floyd,
LOL, I got 208 BHP at PE and 250 lb Torque, when my car was playing up (hesitating bag of ****, prior to changing to a AE801) I think I'm winning so far!!
The BHP of the standard car with Cats is very very impressive I think I need the Tek2 as well
Cheers Phill C

I'm in Milton Keynes, the RR day is early June IIRC - see the IanW thread http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?ThreadID=94163
I'd love to chat anytime
Phil, the competion was to see who had the least power to start with, so I win. LOL

Phil ...
You may not even win that if you see mine from time to time
Floyd, do you travel round in the south much? Edited to say that I'm on hols for next PE RR day ...

Thanks for all who replied to my orig posting.
well, I got the tek2. It turned out I had a v sick airflow sensor which meant that I was running v lean. This meant I was getting 250BHP from the std ecu but, the engine was in danger. So.. a new airflow meter plus the tek2 got me back to 250BHP with a reasonable safety margin in terms of fuelling. so it's not so diff in terms of power but the torque at lower revs does feel considerably better.
A thought - I'm told that these airflow meters go west (reasonably) regularly, and clearly their failure could be spectacularly bad news, so it maybe worth suggesting it's tested when you next get your vehicle serviced.

Jeff,
Sorry got a bit side tracked!
Glad to hear the TEK2 feels good ... do you know what peak boost your hitting in 4th WOT? When mine was first fitted, I was hitting nearly 1.3 BAR, then settling at 1.15 ish. A few hundred miles on, it doesn't peak anymore, just a nice smooth torque curve to the red line

Jeff,
What were your lamda readings with the sick airflow sensor?
I tested mine with my delta dash and mine was around 0.87Volts, a bit lean, so I bought a new airflow sensor and I'm still getting the same readings. Maybe this one is a dodgy one as well, even though it's brand new. I know that brand new parts can sometimes be faulty.
What were your readings and did a history fault show up? Or did you pick up the fault from the lean running only?
Cheers,
Wrexy.
