I know this has probably been done to death, but I cant find any info esp as search is down.
I have booked my car for its MOT and I am after some advise so I am armed for passing the emissions test.
Last year, with both cats fitted my 1994 uk car only just scraped the emissions test. Im after knowing and adjustments that I could make just to pass the emissions. I know about getting the engine and hence cats warm. I'm used to carbarettor cars that you could adjust the mixture for pre and after mot. Can simular be done on impreza's?

You could get EcuTek to "plug in" to the Ecu and do you a custom map to pass the MOT (theoretically) but even then, you might not be able to get it so you could pass your MOT, and besides that, the car would be dangerous to drive (from the engine's health point of view) and the cost would not be insignificant.
You'd be better off putting a catted centre section on to pass the MOT, I believe Scoobysport hire one out for this purpose.....

You can't map a car to pass.
If you lean it out to get the CO down, its out of the lambda range, so still fails.
The MOT measures CO at the optimum fuel ratio for cat efficiency.
We do hire out a twin cat centre that should do the job. If it failed with both cats and the cats were operating OK, then the lambda sensor checked.

Thanks a lot chaps. I might have to take a trip to Essex! Will find out tomorrow. I might be worrying about nothing. I just hoped there would be something simple you could do but obviously not.

am exempt as their are no stats on the sti5 for them to compare to.....
It's always worth getting friendly with a garage that does MOT's however

Matt
Having an import is not the get away it used to be! my mate has a 95 WRX with full decat and it failed on emissions, put the catted DP back on and it passed.
my 94 WRX Wagon with full decat did pass the MOT without needing any tweaks.
however, a chap had his 94/95 STi taken in with standard exhaust in it and it failed! huh?
Still pretty grey area (no pun intended)

Don't know what I was worrying about.
It Passed, well the emossions anyway, (needs 2 new tyres).
I didnt bother putting the centre cat back on and the emissions were fine. I think the CO2 was 0.03% limit 0.5 and the HC 6ppm limit 200.
I dont understand. On limit last year. Same garage, same tester, same equip with one less cat and more mileage.
