Bad Vibration at 3-4k rpm 6th gear
Had a new AP organic clutch fitted 500 miles ago and ever since the car has a really bad vibration but only at 3-4k rpm high load in 6th gear. High load in lower gears is OK, slight vibration in 5th.
Any ideas ?
Took it back to the garage that fitted the clutch and they say everything has gone back together exactly the same as it was before. I am 99% sure it didnt do this before.

Sounds like a prop shaft problem, perhaps the balance weights fell off or a UJ got damaged, or the drive flanges weren't marked. Was the job done by a specialist or just a random garage?

If its prop balance it would happen at certain speeds, have you tried holding the speed at which it vibrates in different gears. If it didn't do it before then I'd be suspicious of either the parts used or the quality of workmanship. Give them the car back & tell them you want it fixed. If they refuse or can't then send it elsewhere & if it turns out to be their fault send them the bill.

Ok thanks for the advice.
Only does it when under load, lift of and keep same speed and all is ok.
They have had it back and claim its all gone back together in same position ( witness marks on bolts line up etc. ).
Really reluctant to take it back again especially as I would have to leave it with them for the week whilst I am at work.
Api have offered to take a look but its just a matter of driving it up from Colchester.

I will see if I can use it one week and call in and get your opinion David. It's been loosing water recently too and I am so scared that its the HG, dont want to drive it up to Coventry for the week if its going to start letting me down.

I had a very similar problem for 1 1/2 years. 2500 to 3500 RPM on WOT in 5th and 6th gear seemed to cause a resonance from the rear end.
Couldn't figure out the problem as I'd had a fair bit of work carried out at the same time by a "well known Subaru expert" in Essex - who didn't seem to be able to diagnose the problem he had created, nor could his "transmission-expert" mate
It eventually turns out that the Excedy Pink clutch he had fitted had f*cked springs and the problem was resolved upon replacing it - by API Dave.
TBF, I couldn't actually say as to whether the clutch fitted was faulty, or if the fitting was done in a faulty manner, not that it makes much difference in the end.
Also of note was an increase in harshness between 1500 and 2000 RPM in third (and higher gears if you like lugging your engine).
Hope this helps.
ps Mine was an MY06 Spec D and the HGs went, which was one of the things the expert "fixed" for me.
I ended up getting API to rebuild the engine soon after as the big-ends failed. So if the HGs need re-doing, maybe think rebuild if engine is coming out.

Thats interesting cster, thank you
It does have some harshness between 1500rpm and 2000rpm in 3rd too. I had a new sportscat fitted at the same time as the clutch and always assumed thats the cause of the harshness.
Ive emailed AP Racing with some pics of the clutch to make sure its a genuine one, paid a lot for it and from a reputable seller so it better be genuine.
Solved the water loss issue ( leaking rad cap ) so will use the car soon and get it to David at APi to check it over for me.
