Ninja,
I think it would depend on what, if any, future mod's you are planning.
I'd also like to know exactly where the ecu was retarding the ignition. This would also give a better idea of why it was happening.
Mark.

You'll probably find your car is only retarding on the rolling road due to lack of cooling to the top mount. You would need to check it on the road to be sure if it's a problem or not.
If you want big numbers on the rollers FMIC is the way to go

And reliability too. Its easy to run out of water, a pump to fail, pipe to burst, dirt to clog the system etc etc....
Front mount intercooler is the way to go for permanent reliable cool temps.

tks for help ign was retarded at about 3500rpm than returned to normal higher up the range.added 1 deg over whole range but this just moved it up the rev range.looks like front mount is way to go.have any of u chopped a 99/00 front bumper and where does the front mount attatch to.do u have to drill mounting holes.tks
It's not unusual for the ecu to retard the ignition - I get it on lift off normally. As long as it's 1-3 degrees I'm not worried.
I believe that from my01 on the ecu actively seeks the knock point and then retards once finding it
I'm not clear what the older cars do - do they seek the knock point, or just react once hit and memorise it?
What year car do you have? DeltaDash can log this data for you if it's >99.

Ninja,
If the ignition s being retarded at 3500rpm, this would "normally" be due to "overboost". You can check this by seeing if you get peak boost at 3500rpm. You'll need to do this in 4th, to simulate the dyno run.
It's possible that you won't have this problem on the road, because like someones mentioned, RR's are unlikely to flow as much air to the IC, we rarely drive our cars the way they are run on the dyno, RR's, and, or the guy doing the run can actually induce overboost, depending on how he loads the dyno.
If it's boost related, and the ecu is retarding the ignition because it's sensing the higher boost level, a FMIC, or WI won't make any difference. These will only help if the ignition is being retarded due high intake temps, inducing det'.
