What are the advantages/disadvantages of a decat centre with resonator or without. ie Magnex with res or SS without?

Thanks Stuart

You can also have Magnex without a resonator.
Slightly louder and perhaps less restrictive than the resonated one.

HI,

The resonator simply takes an element of the bass note out of the exhaust i.e. possibly less droney on the motorway.

I had a magnex centre with a resonator in it. Because it wasn't loud enough I cut out the resonator and got a piece of stainless pipe welded in.(Expensive route to go I know).
Anyway as far as I can tell there is NO performance difference at all, just noise. I wouldn't expect any performance gains as the pie through the resonator is straight through anyway, its just perforated so the noise resonance is absorbed.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will go for the pipe with the resonator to help cut down the noise.

Stuart,

The reason I went in this chaps ''Decatted exhaust systemed'' Scoob was to check the volume out ... I'm not keen on high volumes in the car. It really was a good sound - actually, I found that I wanted to hear the tone ... it was that nice. You'll have no problems

As Steve says.....

I have a decatted exhaust but with a resonator for the reason of removing the base noise from inside the car. It definitely does this and makes the car easier on Motorways.

Still here the boxer engine though...... and hardly any BHP loss (about 1bhp on the rolling road).
