Can somebody enlighten me as to what exactly the centre diff control does in my STI Type R VIII? Most people seem to think it moves the bias forward, some say it is just a diff lock only to be used on snow, mud etc.
The second position on the control still shows green so I take it this is ok for normal driving?
Can somebody post a 'Dummies quide to diff controls'?
Your help is much appreciated!

The centre diff is like a clutch between the front and rear
wheels,on the bottom green its like having the clutch pushed
down, sliding the switch forward is like lifting the clutch up,
progresivly locking the front and rear wheels together. The
only time they are locked is with the switch slid completely
foreward, this position is unsuitable for tarmac, also the more you lock the front and rear wheels the harder the car will be to turn
when manouvering slowly.bottom green for dry tarmac and up a couple of notches in the wet is normally best, but try your own settings, just dont lock it.

The only setting that will do damage is locked in the fully
forward position, this setting is for traction on loose surfaces all the other settings just alter the handling,so you can try them.

Scott,
If you are interested we have developed some software to control the amount of lock from throttle angle and footbrake operation. This enables you to progressively increase lock under acceleration and set any degree of lock under braking. If you want any more info E-mail me or ring on 07836 635001
