Question Re: RWD conversion... the quick and easy way?

Just out of curiosity...

I've got a ver6 STi and was wondering, if I removed my front drive shafts and turned the car in to a RWD, would that cause any issues/problems??

You mean, hope not... lol

Just thinking do the front drive shafts play any part towards calculated resistance on the gearbox? If removed and resistance reduced, does this put increased stress on the rest of the gearage??

Also would be power loss as power is distributed thru the $WD system and whatever power was asigned to the front drive would then be redundant??

You will also need the centre diff welded.

As above, the centre diff needs welding. If you just removed the front shafts you wouldn't go very far

As for the drivetrain it would cause a bit more stress on the gearbox/rear diff as, technically, its suddenly doing twice as much work!

I was only wondering, but with this info I'll scrap that idea as ever being played out.

I'm on my 2nd gearbox and next time hopefully I'll get hold of a v5 ltd dccd box

So the suspension is set-up to cope with all the power going to the rear wheels ?

Nope, didn't think so !

Weld up the centre diff, and use axle stubs(complete axle with the inner CV and axle removed) to keep the bearing assembly together.

Fun for a bit, but changing the geometry setup is a very sensible thing to do.
On a track oriented AWD wheelgeometry RWD only on a Impreza gives massive amounts off sudden oversteer.
A BMW 328 is very predictable, a RWB Impreza is NOT, and it will catch you out if you dont do some tweaks to the camber etc.

Other than Drifting or competing in RWD class, why would you do this to an Impreza?

Buy a6 speed DCCD gearbox setup
