I am looking to take the plunge and buy a 98 STI 4 Wagon , the cars done circa 26k miles.

Are these engines reliable , on basis I run it on something like optimax , regular servicing.

my present WRX 94 has been very reliable engine wise but then its probably not as stressed , i am just a little concerned about the number of people reporting engine faiilures on this bulletin board

 

Well mine's been OK !

I've heard of some going pop, but the information is usually quite vague about fuel and general abuse. I've never seen any stats and I'm sure if it was all STi's there would be a lot more postings.

You pays your money and you takes your chances !
