Question

Can anyone please help and answer a couple of questions for me.
Driving quite quickly across country this evening, whilst overtaking I popped into 5th and floored it. Got loads of rev's but little acceleration. So I guess the clutch is slipping, I drove the last thirty miles home rather more slowly, with no trouble. Once back in town I found a steepish hill, put it in 5th doing about 15mph and floored it, no slip apparent.
So my questions are:-
1. is this the first signs of my clutch going?
2. Should I look at, putting in a bit more clutch play, if so how do I do this and where is the operating lever (top/underneath/left/right)?
3. If I do need a new clutch what type should I go for and how much is it likely to cost for both parts and labour?

Ps. Car is a MY95 Wrx, standard and no plans to try and squeeze any more power out of it. (trying to be safe rather than sorry) Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I first noticed my clutch slipping in 5th @ 3000 rpm. The revs would jump to 3500rpm then drop back slightly to 3400 rpm as the clutch bit again. I think the reason it started slipping @ 3000 rpm first is that's when the main amount of torque starts to arrive.

I did the same thing as you in that I put it in 5th and accelerated from a low speed. The clutch didn't show any signs of slipping at first but after about a week of driving with the clutch worn, once I tried it again it did slip @ 3000 rpm as described above.

Hope this helps

When I upped the boost by 3 PSI on a very wet day the clutch slipped once and has not done it since (despite even more boost ) in about 3 months, but the car only has 16000 miles so I don't expect it would be going yet.

Any views on which clutch to go for then, and who does a good deal + fitting. Is it a good idea to have the flywheel skimmed at the same time?
