Can anybody tell me what this is (fairly sure its some sort of breather / filter thingy) and can it be removed and if so can i just blank the hoses off??

Just incase your wondering... its in my way for my diy front mounted intercooler conversion...

I think the unit is an active charcoal filter for the fuel tank!
The fuel tank is sealed (has no breather) and this thing cleans the gasses before dumping them in the inlet manifold. (I'm sure I haven't described it correctly )

Don't really know why Subaru bothered to put it there?! Don't know the consequences of removing it?

 

David, I had the pipe that feeds "the thing" snap. while the dealer was waiting for the new part they blocked of the feeder pipe. The car ran fine, just like before
