Default 02wrx rear diff problems

Hi guys, I bought my first WRX last week and there was a wheel bearing type noise when driving, upon further inspection the noise is coming from the rear diff, the car has been stood for five months so I am hoping this is just a bearing, I have checked the oil and it looks pretty new. Can anyone tell me how best to check the bearings, where I would get some from and even if this is possible? Cheers Scott.

Scott if the rear diff is def at fault by the time you replace the bearings and have it set up you would be cheaper buying a second hand diff. I am assuming your car is a UK bugeye WRX, If so your gearbox code which can be read from the LH side bell housing near the top, should be something like TY754VN4AA or possibly 2AA. If it has the VN it is a uk car with an R160 3.54 rear diff. These are readily available for not a lot of money maybe £100 and are easy to fit yourself. The R160 3.54 rear diffs were fitted to all UK bugeye and blobeye wrx's so the newer you can get the better. Put an ad in the wanted section.
