I'm new to the scooby scene and don't know too much about technical stuff. But i was driving my Turbo at 120 on forth (when the rev was about to go onto red) which i now know i shouldn't of, anyway i heard a windy noise coming from the bonnet area and thought the bonnet was going to fly off or something.

I slowed down and heard a clanking noise. Anyway moved on and the noise got worse so called out the RAC and they said it was internal which didn't narrow it down much.
Has anyone experienced problems like this before? I am worried this will cost loads and would be better on knowing what it could be. Could it be a valve or piston which went.

The car lost power and the car stalled.

HELP!

me thinks you were doing more than 120 in 4th for it to hit the red line
Give us some more info on car type, age, fuel used, last service, oil used.

the car is a 95 uk car with 90,000 miles. had a service a while back and they said there were no probs but it wasn't a scooby dealer. The car has a HKS airfilter and that's it.

Unhappy

Well with 90k on the clock the engine should still rev to the red line with no problems, you may have knackered a piston thou as valves tend (but not always) bend when they go too much over into the red.
All i can recommend is that you get your car to a speciallist soonest (preferably on a trailer) and see what they make of it.
Not an expert though so dont take my word for it, speciallists a must for this sort of thing.

Regards

could this be anything to do with the last service? obviously they will not admit to it but any idea the cost of the repair if it is the piston. Where can i find a specialist for these? would a subaru garage do?

A subaru garage would repair the car for you but it depends where you are in the uk as there are speciallists out there who will be cheaper and the service as good if not sometimes better.
The fault (poss piston) could be caused by a few things but the most likely is that if your redlining the car alot of the time or keeping the car up there for long periods is det. You should actually run on the best fuel you can (ie sul or optimax) as this reduces the chance of det happening, but if you live near someone like scoobysport or scoobymania id pop down there and see what they say, does sound like a piston thou.
