The fact you say it does it with the engine off, says it's gearbox to me, not had any noises or anything over the last few weeks?

thanks for the reply, i have a very quiet whine but when the clutch pedal is pressed the whine stops, i thought it was clutch noise being as it stops when pedal is pressed but you say i might need a new gearbox, is it going to be an expensive job? as this is my first impreza and im not sure how to tackle the job, dont know if i should get secondhand/recon or new. by the way i have a highly modded my99 uk turbo 2000. thanks again steve.

How highly modded? What sort of bhp? The standard boxes are a bit pants, I would book it in with a specialist, get it confirmed. I can only give my opinion. If your running 320 bhp and upwards I probley wouldn't replace it with a standard box. Maybe try source a ppg box or a 6 speed conversion. There a lot stronger!! Have a look round see what's best for you. It won't be cheap which ever way you go my second hand box cost me 450 and fitted it myself. Was quoted 1000 for a rebuild.
Try and stick to specialists tho subarus can be very tempremental, better if using someone who knows what there doing!!

hi r1c, dont know the true power but was told by previous owner its putting out around 340 he could of just been pulling my pud to sell car because to be honest it doesnt feel like its got that much power as i had an old e34 m5 and that seemed a lot more powerfull compared to the scooby.
i have had a look at my gearbox code and it has the code TY754VN1AA, i have looked on here and ebay but cant find one any suggestions as to where i could get one please. or should i just cut my losses and put it on ebay needing a new gearbox???? thanks r1c for your time. steve.

I got mine from a salvage yard on eBay. I'll have a look in my history see if I can find out who it was. I'll keep my ears open to. Don't get rid of it over a gearbox. If it's 340 bhp it would have an uprated turbo I'd have thought. Therefore a remap probley ecutek. The standard turbo is good for 300 I think. What mods do you have? You would know if you had 340 tho surely. Post up your mods I'll see if I can give you an idea.

hi r1c, the guy told me, it had a t05 turbo upgrade, wrx chipped with remap, walbro uprated fuel pump, 3" ss decat, very loud back box cant remember the name, hks3 sequential bov, piper induction kit, some special suspension that can be adjusted again cant remember name but there red, this is all i can remember at the mo, the car cost me £3500 due to all the extra's with a ton of paper work.

im at a loss as what to do with it because at the moment i cant afford more than £700 to get it sorted and looking at other posts im looking at around £1200 for a gearbox fitted, so i think ebay is going to be my only option as i need a car for work, im driving it with no 1st gear and prob going to need a new clutch or i will kill the gearbox.
cheers r1c, steve..

Www.gradea-subaru.co.uk try these. I got mine from a Subaru breakers in Norwich, can't find there name or number anywhere. Just search out salvage yards on the net. If push comes to shove you can fit a different gearbox as long as you have the matching diff. Are you able to have a go at replacing it yourself?

Give mattybr5 a pm. He has loads for sale. If he not got one he may know some one who has. How mechaniclly minded are you? It's not that bad a job.!! Us scooby owners gotta stick together. If you can do it you'll save loads. Any scooby owner will tell you, sooner or later you will have to get your hands dirty. Have you put a wanted thread out

hi r1c, im ok with getting my hands dirty but i dont have the equipment to change a box no ramps or jack good enough to take the load of a gearbox plus i dont have a clue what to do, so going to have to be at the mercy of the local garage unless i can find someone who can do it for me with the right tools, i have a subaru specialist just up the road from me and he has quoted me £1000 for a box fitted with 3 months warranty and £1300 with a clutch and if i get my own box he wants £800 but this is with a clutch.

going to pm mattybr5 to see if he has a box and i have also posted a wanted add now just got to find some one who can do it at a better rate. thanks steve.

£800 to fit a box you have sourced yourself is pretty steep, minus £300 max for a new clutch kit and the guy is still wanting £500 labour....considering many places will supply and fit a clutch for £500 (its no more work obviously as the box has to come off for the clutch anyway)

That's all good to hear mate, I forgot to say, keep your old box, you can get money back on that. They are used for ppg conversions. The centre diff is also handy. Think I got about 70 quid back from mine.

That's really unlucky mate. If your definatly sure it's the gearbox there ok to fit yourself, I'd have to be 100% it's the gearbox, before changing it. Post up your box code it's on the top of the box iirc on the passenger side. Probley start with ty752. If it is there pretty easy to come by.
