another 3rd gear loss thread
Im new to the scooby scene so still picking up on everything I lost 3rd gear yesterday on my 2001 bug wrx put it into 3rd and bang, scrattchh grinding and now have no 3rd all the other gears are still there
decided my cheapest option would be to source another box which I did for a bargin price of 160posted
I have a ty754vn2aa box fitted what sort of power can you push though one without problem obv I realize its all on your driving style but realistically what are they good for, also what sort of job are they to remove and fit as I might tackle it myself and replace it as done my 200sx without a problem, what sort of price should a garage be charging.

It's torque that kills the boxes I would imagine no more than 350 lbs ft if you want it reliable, I was running approx 420 lbs ft and my Ty754 box was lasting about 1500 miles.
Taking the box out is no major drama, just dropped mine out at the weekend on my own in about 1.5 hours,(but I have done the job about 10 times)
Do a search on here an I'm sure someone has done a step by step guide, some people will say you have to undo one of your front lower wishbones to take the front driveshafts off but you don't need to, when pulling to box back off of the engine if you angle the box to either side to drop the opposite drive shaft off is no problem.
