Default Rear diff V4 STI R also what oil?

What oil is best to use in the above Diff, I believe its 75-90 is this correct. Is there a different oil to use if its slightly noisy (like you can with a BMW)? I'm not sure if the noise is coming from the diff but wanted to ask the question before I got it looked at. I would have done it myself but the filler and drain plugs are seized up and I cant shift them.

Also is this a R180 diff and what is the ratio?

Thanks
Andy.

Hi Andy

75w-90 or SAE90 is the correct grade, the one I'd go for if you're getting some noise is the Millers CRX NT

75w-90 Gear oil

Or Silkolene BOA 90LS

90 Gear oil

Cheers

Tim

All Type Rs have a 4.44 R180 rear diff.

Complete and utter nonsense!!

I own a V3 Type R (97) and guess what, yep that's right it has an R180, as did the one I did a six speed conversion on last week.
We swapped out the 4.44 for a UK R180 3.54 and the drive shafts fitted a treat

So I'll repeat, ALL Type R's have an R180 Diff!!!!!!

The only difference between the V3 and V4 Type R on the rear is the hubs and brakes. The V4 had the two pot rears and as such the backplates on the hubs are different.

Sorry to be correcting you but its misinformation like that which confuses everbody.
