spare wheel use

am i right in thinking on a awd car like subarus its a big no no to use a spare wheel of different overall size/circumferance to whats on there as it could cause damage to diffs/boxes etc. my mate and i have had this argument before,

Yes you are correct. Its also a big no to tow it on two wheels only.
