Default Gearbox Whine

Hello, i have a v4 sti type r and will be doing the clutch shortly.
Now ive got a whine in 2nd and 3rd gear which has gradually got worse but not excessive. Just wondering whilst the box is out whether to do the shaft bearings. The question is are the bearings pressed on or held on with circlips and where could i get the bearings from.
Cheers,
James.

Yes. However, if the whine is specific to those two gears and is getting worse, chances are it's more likely to be gear tooth damage than worn bearings.

Your problem is - most companies I spoke to dont warrranty the actual gears only there work/bearings etc. If you go to them for a O/haul........

These parts are very unlikely to fail anyway, its the parts you cant see ie - fatigued gears that cause the problems IMHO.

I've built a box before but unless you have access to a good workshop I think you will struggle. Yes they are straight forward but given the tools you will no doubt have to buy its probs more cost effective to find another.

Try here for a reasonable price for a o/haul, if you decide to go that way Ignition Motorsport Home Page

I think I had to buy a 50mm socket too if I remember correctly!
