I just bought a 2001 Impreza NA with Automatic transmission. Drove fine the 3 times that I took it out for a test drive and once this morning. Now the thing won't go into forward gears, though reverse is fine. You can't hear D,1,2,3 engage. Sounded fine when being driven, but not much chance of that now. AT Fluid is OK colour but level too high - I'll see if my local garage can drain off some fluid but guess it is probably something worse than that given the low price that I paid for this otherwise decent car.

Idle speed is fine and no other apparent problems. 82k on clock.

Any ideas, or recommendations for a good transmission shop in the Milton Keynes area would be really appreciated.
