Hi guys,

I was rolling about under the scooby last night and came upon a spring which had rusted through and was hanging by one end. It was on the top of what I think was the gearbox and was about 1/2" wide by 2" long. It was located near the heat shield, about a third of the way down the car from the front. Nearby there was a shaft of some kind which I assume was the gearstick coupling.

As you can tell I'm a bit of a noob and need your help to figure out what it is and how to fix it!
