I have a legacy GL '51 plate that needs a new (s/h) gearbox.
I'm really struggling with this, and would really appreciate any help.
The gearbox/transmission ID from the vin plate for the gearbox I want is TY754XRBAB

The code for the one at the breakers is TY754VRAAB

from what i'm told, its the final ratio that matters, but do you know how i find out if the boxes are interchangeable?

Its not as simple as just the final drive ratio, the drop or transfer gear ratio is just as important,

 

If it was mine and ...... the breaker box was physically the same .... driveshafts fitted ok , clutch driven plate fitted on input shaft, speedo connections etc the same ..... I,de fit the box and the rear diff from the breaker to be confidant of compatablity of the ratios...... bear in mind there could be inaccuracies in the speedo reading tho , but only a small percentage ( but only if both vehicles were of the same or very similiar model)
