Question

Just fitted up my Defi's

Seems on full boost turbo peaks just under 1 bar (MY00 Black ECU) with Scoobysport D/P HKK Hiper Exhaust. Running Optimax(if that makes any difference)

Whats the "safe" limit I should set my Defi peak warning too when the dawes is fitted and correctly adjusted?
Seems everyone is reading in psi not bar as my gauge does.

If this has already been covered a link to the thread will suffice.

Cheers

John

1.2 bar approx if sustained will give a fuel cut.

John (mega_stream)

The defi boost gauge does not actually read in bar but actually kgf/cm3 or something along those lines Which if my memory is correct is actually slightly more than bar. Both ScoobyJawa and myself have Defi gauges and we are running 1.15 held on the boost gauge

We have both set our warning lights to come on at 1.25, as this will obviously be getting close the actual fuel cut mark, and therefore provides us with some advance warning if needed (touch wood, it hasn't! )

1kg/cm2 = 0.980665 bar, so if you want to run 1.15bar then your boost gauge should read 1.172 kg/cm2 if it's accurate.

Cheers

Exclamation

I reset my peak Turbo pressure last week, been having a few "spirited" runs to work lately, checked my peak this morning and its 1.1 on my gauge..

This is without the Dawes, is this not a bit higher than would be expected?

Well I'm running something like 1.11 on the gauge and according to the ECU/MAP sensor, I'm actually running about 1.049Bar (15.2psi) so I'm about 0.1bar out.

When I can reliably trace the MAP output, I will increase it to a steady 1.1bar which is 'cos the last .1 bar gave me 15bhp and 25ft/lbs

Not quite sure I get what ya mean mate?

I'm now running the dawes vertical. Comes out the turbo nipple and then straight into the dawes with about 3cm of piping to cover turbo nipple and dawes. Then about 7/8cm to the wastegate, cable tied to the coolant pipe to hold upright. Also using my own 3mm internal diameter hosing which seems to provide better peak and boost control - not too keen on the dawes hosing.

Hope that was what ya meant - but I'm in numpty friday mode so correct me if its not

I think he meant what position is the screw thread? The answer is, whatever it takes to get the boost as you want it

Seriously, it's never quite the same for each car but I think most people find it's nearly screwed all the way in. On mine, it's screwed nearly all the way out but that's another story

Put it on without changing it and if your boost is not high enough, screw it in a bit at a time until it is.

Matt yup thats what I meant
Trouble is the day it arrived naturally screwed it to see what was inside so I havn't got a clue how it looked before I unscrewed it

I guess safest way is lowest setting first and then adjust from there...

mega, LOL, how silly of you...I can't think of anyone who did that

In that case, unscrew it most of the way, install it and then start there....

Don't forget to drill the bleed hole and not to run too much boost, SAFETY FIRST!!!

Cool

Well its fitted At last!

After a bit of fiddling and driving up and down the bypass, getting out with a spanner and then back out again I've set it to peak at 1.2 on the Defi with 1.1 held

The car is most certainly much smoother and seems much quicker and responsive.

My only concern now is changes in temperature it was quite mild this morning when I set it up, I'll say its about 4-5 threads from fully wound in.

John,

With the problems I've had with my dawes its been off a bit, and with my car without dawes - full decat and ITG I was getting peaks of 1.1 too, so sounds right. Held was about 0.95 to 1.0.
With the Dawes on the peak is 1.2 and hold 1.1 in 4th and 1.15 in fifth.

When scott set his up he didn't hit the fuel cut until an indicated 1.35 on the gauge - So they could be .1 out.......

Mine RR'd was holding just over 15PSi but the gauge was reading 1.1. 1.1kg/cm should be more like 15.7Psi
