Default Gearbox leak

Hi
I have noticed a slight drip somewhere from the rear section of my gearbox, which is going onto the exhaust. I got underneath the car yesterday and it seems to be coming from a section that bolts on around 150mm long at the rear of gearbox. What part would this be? I would like to buy the gaskets and tackle this myself, will this section unbolt and come apart ok? Every impreza gearbox i have seen out of car seems to have oil around this area!

regards mark

I guess you must mean the plate on the back of the box that the prop goes into?

If so there is no gasket as such, its just sealed with sealant. we just place a bead of good quality sealant round and bolt the plate back on, never actually done it with out removing the box but I cant think why it couldnt be done in situ.

Thanks for the reply,i am going to have a better look tommorow. The oil seems to be coming from the joint about 6" forward from where the prop enters or could be from the plate above? Do these not have gaskets? i imagine the rear part would unbolt once the prop is off but i do not think i could get to the top plate while the gearbox is in situ. if i unbolt the rear section, will it pull off easilly with nothing falling out or bits flying everywhere???

here is pic of where i think its coming from,my car is 1998 type R
