rebuilding gearbox
Hi does any one have a breakdown of costs for rebuilding a gearbox the 4th gear syncro has gone in my sti v3 and I am waying up is it best to rebuild it myself or get another box all the other gears and syncros are fine

If 4th gear has gone and you are planning on getting it rebuilt then the chances are if the other syncros are worn (not completely gone) these are better getting changed while the box is stripped down. So if you are just after a quick fix get a second hand unit or a rebuild will prob cost £425 - £550

thanks for that think I will strip my box see what condition it's in then decide what to do the rest of the gears seem fine, the problem I have with getting a second hand box is you don't know if it's going to be anygood

I just had my gearbox re-build because my 4th kept jumping out! It cost me $2000.00 (New Zealand $) I replaced as much as I could apart from the actual gears as they were all fine.
The mechanic only charged me for 3 hours ($60 / hr), the rest was parts!
Only 3 hours because I removed and stripped GB myself.
Parts on my list for my Version 3 STI RA:
Various Needle bearings
1st to 5th gear synchros
Hub assy.
Lift shaft seal
RH shaft seal
Input shaft seal
Transfer gasket
Lock Nut
