Question

Just fitted a s/sport downpipe and mid section to my P1 and wonder if i should now use octane stuff?
I run optimax fuel , i dont have boost gauge or knocklink
so what advantages/disadvantages would i get?
By the way, it sounds and goes the biz now

I only run Optimax in my car, and looking on Shell's website last week (or was in another post?....Don't suppose I'm inspiring much confidence here ), I'm sure the blurb said that Optimax is already treated with a form of octane booster to bring it up to 98.6 octane. Apparently, adding more (different make, obviously) is not particularly a good idea...

Sorry I can't be more specific...

I run mine on Optimax and Millers octane booster. The car seems to like it - can't be any more technical than that though!

Has been commented on as being a good idea, by a rolling road operator, but again - nothing really to say why.

My what a lot of use

Optimax is only gaurenteed 98.0 RON, and has the same MON rating as SUL.

Octane Booster increases MON ratings also, MON is the rating for top end performance.

Millers is OK, but i found NF to be much better.

If your car is highly modded or you are doing a track day or a meet or something, I'd say it's essential.

Import cars that are designed to run 100 RON Jap fuel would also benefit.

My car runs 1.4 Bar boost and I have used Millers and NF (sometimes together!)

Millers is good but NF is just NASTY!

Last week I filled up and as an experiment just used Optimax and no booster. A tank later, the car is NOTICEABLY more sluggish.

Fair enough my car is pretty modded (UK Turbo 320bhp)so it will make more of a difference but as long as you are sensible and don't add buckets of the stuff it shouldn't do you any harm and will certainly make your car smoother and possibly quicker.

Cheers

Rich
