Gearbox need replacing?
Im currently in the process of buying a uk scooby which has 150k on the clock with a fully rebuilt engine,i asked the seller if there were any problems with the car and i asked him to be truthful and be as honest as possible and he mentioned there was a wine on the gearbox(when going down the gears) had a new exedy clutch fitted,im not mech minded at all so im not sure if it will need a recon box put on the car,and should i take this into account when making an offer on the car
My last wrx import used to have a wine on the gearbox in reverse but it wasnt my daily driver so it didnt get used during the week, only at weekends
any info or heads up would be great as i dont want to part with 2k and find it needs a gearbox at a rough cost of 700.00 quid.

its a uk scooby M reg so 1994/1995
dont know whether to buy an import again,at least with the uk models you know what has been done to it,and its been on our salty uneven roads in the uk so that aint really a bonus, and the rubbish weather it has suffered.

That will have the weaker TY752 casing then. So will an import of that year.
The change over year was 1998.
The imports are a better drive out of the box - I think its down to how well it has been looked after.
Has it a front brake uprade with 17s with good tyres on - a must for earlier cars. Thats one of the key things I would try and get on an earlier car.
header Tanks, Top Hoses and Power stearing resevoiurs are all weak points.
If the power has been push up with mods - has it been mapped? and can the rest fo the drivetrain cope???
Just some thoughts

yes car has been upgraded with 4 pots on the front and is running 17's
ive got another scooby in mind, running sweet but with 143k on the clock im worried the next thing will be an engine rebuild for that car,at least the other scooby has a full engine rebuild but with a whining gearbox? import lower mileage but never know where its been and how much punishment its had
i suppose this is what we have to encounter when we have these cars, god i love em though!!!
