Default STi TypeR gearbox limits

Hi,

I've been searching, but didn't find a clear answer to my question - what are the limits of STi TypeR v5/6 (my99/00) torque power/torque limits (I believe the second one is even more important)?

And I mean limits in a sort of sporty driving, not treating the gearbox delicate like on the street...
Am I right expecting something around 400Nm? More? Less?

cheers

I ran mine at 400ft/lbs with a few full blown drag launches thrown in for good measure with no worries.

ANY box will die if you really abuse it imo..

Regarding your question, my car is running 350ft/lb and it,s fine....KISS OF DEATH...

But, i DON,T launch the car, i,m not that rich to be buying box after box..

450bhp/380ftlb 6000 miles- so far, so good... But no dragstrip japes - trackdays yes, "enthusiastic road driving" yes.

around 400ftlb sounds like over 500Nm - pretty impressive...

I would be happy to make sometimes some nice starts without loosing gears

3rd box in my RA, last one did less than a 1000 miles. Now detuned to 1.2 bar rather than 1.4 and approx 300lbs or torque. So far so good.

Hm, I might be wrong, but I would expect those STi boxes, especially TypeR from 99/00 to be a bit stronger than those from WRX - the gear set seems to be different anyway.

cheers everyone

400lbs , i know of a few cars running that sort of power on standard V5/6,P1 boxes, Banny also ran 380bhp with similar torque on a P1 box with no issues, on his previous setup

Its fatigue that prob killed yours. I had the same happen.

Now got a late model box TY755VN1AA, wider gears stronger bearings/casing.

£400 plus delivery from Grade A

TY 754XXX boxes are stronger than TY 752XXX - TY754VBAAA is what's in mine

See transmission chart The SPDA - Transmission Chart

I'm running a TY752 STI 3 gearbox in my car at 390BHP Its seen mostly road miles, but has had some abuse and has done 1 sprint day and 1 track day. Its still going strong so far. No noise or issues.

When / if it lets go I'll go for a PPG 1-4 straight cut

Have a few track days planned this year and will be doing a 1/4 mile day too so will let you know how it goes.

Thanks everyone - I hope mine will handle the torque after my planned mods and remap
