Default gearbox syncro's

hi all i own a 02 reg version 7 jdm sti import with a crunchy 6 speed type gearbox.. 4th and 5th gears are badly crunching ... ive brought car like this but looking for best prices for repairs or parts...
i put this down to being driven so long by previous owner with a badly worn clutch.. i replaced clutch straight away as thought this may help or cure problem which as improved but still no good..
any thought or help plz..
have been offered a 52 reg uk spec 6 speed sti box.. does anyone know if these are same spec, ratio, etc
i.e if i buy it will it all be ok to use..

thanks mark

If you wan't to protect your baulk rings properly, especialy after a rebuild, then you should be using Castrol Syntrax 75w90 as this is not only the correct grade of oil, it is both, reccomended by the factory & it also has an addative in it to help the baulk rings do their job correctly.

Well, you learn something new every day

I'de never heard it called Driveline before, all the containers i've seen have just said "Castrol Syntrax universal 75w90 Gear Oil" on them, they seem to have now added the word Driveline.

It's your learning something everyday that makes us ask you all these questions !

dunx

P.S. Can you PM me an answer to this one, my car has six year old clutch fluid in ( I know ! ) and the clutch has started slipping at 4500 rpm in fifth. Could this be a factor or is the 400 bhp that's done it in ? (43,000 miles )

TIA

I bought the rings for 3rd 4th 5th and 6th and got a local tranny specialist to do this on a friends car, RobRoy.. wasnt too expensive a job but then again I dont knwo how much a new box is gonna cost ya.

Company was down in Kent and I would recommend his work on the repairs.

ohhh I would have thought the UK spec box will not be matched to the jap diff you have....
